ApologetiX coming to Austin
ApologetiX (That Christian Parody Band) specializes in Biblical parodies of rock hits from yesterday and today, including everything from Elvis to Eminem. It's kind of like "Weird Al" Yankovic meets Billy Graham. In fact, Weird Al's drummer, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz, plays on one of the band’s CDs.
You may remember their music from the Sonrise singers drama Over the Rainbow which contained "My God Bends to Low Places", "I Want in that Place" and "Pray Now".
Mission
ApologetiX has a simple, two-fold mission: to reach the lost and teach the rest. The band takes its
name from the word "apologetics,” meaning the defense of the Christian faith (1 Peter 3:15). Worldrenowned
author and apologetics expert Josh McDowell recently said this about them: "What a thrill
to work with 'that Christian parody band" ApologetiX ... The band distinguished themselves from other
Christian musicians by including Bible Scripture in all of their lyrics, high-energy evangelism, and
humor that was enjoyed by all ages. I can wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone."
Listen
ApologetiX has released 14 CDs and is set to release its 15th CD, “Future Tense" in 2008. ApologetiX
CDs are available at Christian bookstores throughout the United States, plus Canada, Australia, South
Africa, Scotland and Singapore. They can also be purchased online at apologetix.com and
christianbook.com. Stores can order them through Wesscott Marketing (1-800-375-3702) and all
major Christian distributors.
Recognition
In September 2004, ApologetiX received the American Christian Music awards for Alternative Artist of
the Year and Alternative Song of the Year. In February 2005, ApologetiX was named Favorite Indie
Artist in the CCM Magazine Readers' Choice Awards. In December 2005, ApologetiX won the Best
Album award in Christianity Today's 2005 Readers' Choice Christian Music Awards. The band also
has a fast-growing online fan club with over 90,000 members of all ages.
Musicians
The band members include lead singer/lyricist J. Jackson, guitarist/keyboardist/producer Bill Hubauer,
bassist Keith Haynie, and drummer Jimmy Tanner. Each band member is married with children (13 in
all). All of the band members grew up in and around Pittsburgh PA, and that is where they make their
homes and attend church.
