2008 MISSION TRIPS

Jesus is risen!  As the first Christian Church exploded into Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth, we are also called to proclaim the good news of the empty tomb to all people. Check out the links to learn more about the mission teams that your are sending out from Bethany!  And continue to lift these teams in prayer.

At Bethany Lutheran Church there are many opportunities for mission and service in the year of 2008.  Four mission trips have, or will, take place in a span of only 6 months.  Various members of Bethany, of all different ages, will serve, help, and minister to four separate communities throughout the year. Each mission group will be serving people in unique ways, but all hope to bring God’s love to a hurting world.

Tunica (christmas 2007)

In January, 13 people went to Tunica, Mississippi where they ministered to the youth by leading an After Christmas Carnival (a mini VBS). Each day they shared a drama and led singing, crafts, and games.  They also cared for the elderly and infirmed in the local nursing home and worshiped and prayed with church leaders from several congregations in the area to encourage unity in the body of Christ.  The women on this trip also worked with young adult and teen moms and helped them to set goals for their future.

El Paso (Spring 2008)

Thirty-one of Bethany’s youth and adults went to Ysleta Lutheran Mission in El Paso, TX and Juarez, Mexico in March.Ysleta Lutheran Mission is the home church for the Christian mariachi group that has played for our worship. While there, they bulit two houses for the people of Juarez and engage the Mexican youth in Vacation Bible School. In the VBS, the story of Jesus was shared, games will be played, songs sung, and relationships built. The team is planning another one during the Spring Break of 2009. Check out the pictures from trip!

New Orleans (July 6-11)

On July 6th -11th around twenty youth and twelve adults went to New Orleans for a week-long mission trip.  While on the trip they did a variety of task from help cleaning out houses, to rebuilding homes, churches, painting, restoration projects, landscaping, and various other items that need to be done.  Not only they help restore people’s personal possessions, but they help restore people’s lives, hope, and faith.  New Orleans is the ultimate form of taking the gospel out into the world as the mission team both physically and spiritually impacts people’s lives for Christ.

Dallas (July 19-26)

Twenty middle school youth and 8 adults of Bethany headed to Dallas from July 19-26.   While in Dallas, this mission team lead an inner-city Vacation Bible School of games, songs, Bible lessons, dramas and crafts.  They also served in a soup kitchen, worked in the community by doing light construction and assisted in yard clean up and served in an inner city health clinic.

Tunica 2008 (December)

In December, 10 people went to Tunica, Mississippi where they ministered to the communities of Tunica, Robinsonville and Clarksdale Mississippi.  The team did praise and worship at the Tunica nursing home and prison and participated in leading worship with a congregation in Robinsonville.  In Clarksdale the team sorted donated clothing and helped to organize a local crisis pregnancy center.  Whenever there was an opportunity to play with kids, members of the mission took full advantage.  God’s love was shared with many of the residence of these Mississippi Delta communities.

Our Vision for Missions

Through cultural emersion, we hope to raise up leaders who will be missionaries in their own community by providing them with hands on training and opportunities to take their walk with Christ to a deeper level.
